On November 1–3, the Vakhushti Bagration Institute of Geography hosted an international conference titled "Geography: past, present, and future challenges" to celebrate the institute's 90th anniversary. The ceremonial session took place at the National Academy of Sciences of Georgia on the first day. Academician Roin Metreveli, the President of the Academy, Academician Jaba Samushia, Academician Revaz Gachechiladze, current and former employees of the Institute, and other invited guests of honour attended the event. Notably, the institute initiated the establishment of the Vakhushti Bagration Medal, which was presented for the first time this year to distinguished scientists affiliated with the institute. Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, hosted scientific sessions during the conference's second day. Scholars from the Republic of South Africa, Georgia, Germany, Switzerland, Turkey, and India delivered compelling presentations covering current studies in multiple fields of geography. The Institute and National Geographic Georgia awarded special gifts to the early-career researchers whose presentations and posters were voted the most outstanding at the conclusion of the conference.
