On 17–21 September 2026, the Vakhushti Bagrationi Institute of Geography at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University hosted the International Workshop “Securing Sustainable Geopark Development in the South Caucasus.”

The event was organized in cooperation with the Department of Geography at Justus Liebig University Giessen, with the participation of Yerevan State University, and  the Institute of Geography, Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The workshop brought together researchers and representatives of universities, research institutions and NGOs from Georgia, Germany, Armenia and Azerbaijan.

The main aim of the workshop was to exchange knowledge and experience on geopark development, geoheritage conservation and sustainable tourism, and to strengthen international cooperation. Participants presented their research findings and practical experience, followed by thematic presentations and joint discussions.

The event contributed to strengthening professional links among the participating countries and identifying opportunities for future cooperation on sustainable geopark development in the South Caucasus.
