Project Summary: The purpose of the project is water management in the Rion river basin past and present state of the system Analysis of dynamics, quantitative of water resources and qualitative assessment of flood risks detection and identification of areas vulnerable to natural disasters, of the existing potential of water resources of the basin Detection and optimal water management plan Formulation of recommendations.
The research area of the project is the basin area of the lower river flow of the Rion river. From Kutaisi to Poti (to the confluence), which includes the municipalities and rural settlements in the plains of Imereti and Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti, in particular, the plains of Kolkheti. Accordingly, the beneficiaries of the project are the population directly located in the middle and downstream areas of the Rion River, who are on the one hand under the potential risk of natural disasters, and on the other hand, are the users of water resources. Their number exceeds 65,000.
Beneficiaries also include producers of agricultural products.
